Session Description: During the height of the pandemic, long-term care and ICF staff were hailed as heroes‚compared to first responders for their tireless commitment in the face of fear, loss, and uncertainty. But the applause has faded, and the work remains just as vital, just as intense. What lingers now is trauma‚ unprocessed, unacknowledged, and often untreated‚ among a workforce that still shows up daily to care for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. This session repositions LTC and ICF direct care staff as "civilian first responders"‚ individuals who have experienced long-term exposure to high-stress environments without the mental health support systems traditionally afforded to emergency personnel. Attendees will explore how trauma manifests in staff behavior, performance, and morale; how to create systems of organizational resilience; and most critically, how to lead through this reality with compassion, clarity, and purpose.
